The active lifestyle people look forward to depends on proper mobility of the spine and extremities. Joints of the body can lose their normal motion and position. When joint function is impaired, there is inflammation, reduced range of motion, calcium buildup, and scar tissue. This can be caused by repetitive motions, improper sitting, overexertion, slips, falls, accidents, etc. Awareness of these types of problems has become more common with terms like "tennis elbow", "runner’s knee", "frozen shoulder" and "carpal tunnel syndrome". Many people are surprised to learn that joint pain in the hand, wrist, elbow, jaw, shoulder, foot, ankle, knee or hip can be helped by chiropractic care.
The traditional treatment of these problems involved splinting the joint to reduce movement, pain medications, muscle relaxers, massage, steroid injections, and even surgery! Today, a more common sense approach is being taken. Joint mobilization - like chiropractic care for the spine - and soft tissue techniques for the muscles and ligaments are being used in the care of the extremity joints. Helping to restore normal range of motion to joints that have become "locked up" or injured improves blood circulation, reduces scar tissue, and speeds up the healing process. Much of Dr. Kjaer’s practice is treating the extremity joints and soft tissues. A very common reason people are referred to our office is for these types of problems.
It might seem a simple solution to take aspirin and drugs to cover up these warning signs or symptoms, but the actual cause of the injury is not being addressed. Some people simply choose to do nothing. The symptoms may subside, but the injury remains. As soon as the aggravating activity begins again, the symptoms and pain reappear. It is no solution to do nothing in the hope the problem goes away on its own.
A better approach is to be proactive. Call us. If a thorough examination reveals reduced range of motion, short ligaments, tight muscles or mechanical restrictions, chiropractic care may make a difference. Chiropractic care restores normal motion and position to the extremity joints. This could improve function and reduce painful symptoms.
Dr. Kjaer utilizes treatments to correct these and other musculo-skeletal problems. Ultimately, this can ensure that you get more out of your life: sports, family time, hobbies, physical activities and work.
